Drop off and pick up zone
The afternoon pick up zone is a service we provide for families to make it easier for parents/carers to pick up students after 3:15pm.
The following guidelines are to ensure and maintain student safety at all times.
Guidelines for parents
- Your car must remain turned on while in the pick-up bay. Otherwise, you are deemed to be parked, which is illegal between 3pm–4pm as per council signage.
- Please do not wait in the pick up zone prior to 3:10pm.
- If your child/ren are not in the pick-up bay ready to be picked up when the teacher on duty calls their name, parents will need to complete a lap around the village to return to the back of the queue. Cars cannot block the pick up queue as it causes traffic and safety issues on Grose Vale Rd.
- Please do not join the car queue if you know you will block Grose Vale Road, as this creates a dangerous situation which can endanger students and families.
- In order to reduce congestion at pick up time please consider arriving at 3:20pm. All students should be collected from school no later than 3:30pm.
We understand, occasionally, there can be traffic jams and incidents which delay parents/carers. We always ensure our students are cared for and safe.
Regular arrivals later than 3:30pm will require you to arrange an alternate method of pick up for your child/children.
Any children not picked up from school after 3:30pm will need to be collected from the school office.
Guidelines for students
- Leave the classroom and walk straight to the waiting bay.
- Walk and sit in the waiting bay to be supervised by staff.
- Remain seated in the waiting bay.
- Look for his/her car, listen for his/her name and walk to the supervising teacher when called.
- Listen and follow teacher instructions at all times.
- Students must be able to fasten his/her child restraint to use the pick-up zone.
Please ensure that all students are secured safely when travelling in vehicles, always adhering to Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) regulations. For information on RMS regulations regarding child restraints, please go to rms.nsw.gov.au.
Getting to and from school safely
As a parent or carer, it’s your responsibility to get your child to and from school safely. Student safety is our priority.
Keep our school community safe by:
- driving and parking safely, even if it means parking further away and walking the rest of the way to school
- being a good role model
- never calling your child from across the road
- using the safest place to cross the road.
For parents and carers of younger children
Discuss with your child how to be safe when:
- walking
- in the car
- waiting for, travelling on, and getting off the bus
- riding bikes, scooters and skateboards.
Also talk about and practise:
- safe travel routes
- plans for when unexpected things happen
- what to do in wet weather.
Subsidised school travel
Transport for NSW provides subsidies to assist school students.
- The School Student Transport Scheme provides eligible students with free or subsidised travel on public transport between home and school.
- The School Drive Subsidy may help towards the costs of driving children to school if you live in an area where there is no public transport.
