Inspire – High potential and gifted education

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.

At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Recognising potential and developing talent

Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.

Tailored lessons

Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.

Rich opportunities and activities

Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.

Opening doors to wider experiences

Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.

What is high potential and gifted education?

Inspire – High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom

At Kurrajong Public School, we are committed to identifying and supporting high potential and gifted students across all learning areas. In alignment with the NSW Inspire – High potential and gifted education Policy, we recognise that high potential may be demonstrated in different ways, across different domains, and at different times. Our role is to create the conditions that allow every student to develop their potential and thrive.

We support high potential and gifted learners across the four HPGE domains:

Intellectual Domain

Students are challenged to think deeply, reason critically and engage with complex ideas.

  • Differentiated teaching and learning programs that provide depth, complexity and challenge
  • Explicit instruction in critical thinking, problem-solving and metacognitive strategies
  • Flexible and responsive grouping to ensure appropriate challenge and growth
  • Ongoing use of formative and summative assessment to inform targeted teaching

Creative Domain

Students are encouraged to think imaginatively, explore ideas and take intellectual risks.

  • Learning experiences that promote creativity, innovation and divergent thinking
  • Opportunities for open-ended tasks and inquiry-based learning
  • Classroom environments that encourage curiosity, originality and experimentation
  • Valuing creative thinking across all learning areas

Social–Emotional Domain

Students are supported to develop confidence, resilience and a strong sense of self.

  • Student-led goal setting and learning conversations with parents
  • Personalised, timely feedback that supports reflection and growth
  • Explicit teaching of self-regulation, perseverance and wellbeing strategies
  • Supportive classroom cultures that promote belonging, collaboration and respectful relationships

Physical Domain

Students are supported to develop potential through physical engagement, coordination and performance.

  • Recognition of diverse strengths and talents beyond the classroom

Through these practices, Kurrajong Public School ensures that high potential and gifted students are identified early, supported consistently and challenged appropriately, enabling them to grow academically, socially and emotionally while remaining connected, confident and engaged learners.
