Our extra-curricular highlights
Debating and public speaking
At Kurrajong Public School, students are encouraged to develop confidence, critical thinking, and communication skills through public speaking and debating opportunities. Our students proudly represent the school in the Hawkesbury Public Speaking Competition, the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition — where Kurrajong students have excelled, even winning the State Championship in multiple age groups — and the Premier’s Debating Challenge, where they have consistently reached the finals and twice competed at State level. Through these opportunities, students learn to think deeply, speak with clarity, and engage respectfully with others, building skills that will serve them for life.
Creative and performing arts
At Kurrajong Public School, every student has the opportunity to explore the creative and performing arts as part of our whole school RFF program. Through weekly specialist-taught lessons in drama, dance, and music, students develop skills, confidence, and a love of the arts. In addition, they may choose to join our orchestral band, junior dance group, or senior dance group, further extending their talents. Each year, our students proudly showcase their creativity at the Hawkesbury Performing Arts Festival, shopping centre performances, and school events, celebrating the rich creative spirit of our community.
Chess
At Kurrajong Public School, chess is a much-loved opportunity for students to challenge their minds and build strategic thinking skills. Many students take part in a student-led lunchtime chess group or join before-school lessons, where they develop their skills in a fun and supportive environment. Our giant chess set in the playground is also a favourite, with students eagerly gathering to play during breaks. Beyond the school, students proudly represent Kurrajong in inter-school competitions through the Hawkesbury PSSA and the Sydney Chess Academy, regularly achieving outstanding results. Our teams are often recognised as Chess Champions, a reflection of both their dedication and their enjoyment of the game.
Trips and excursions
At Kurrajong Public School, learning extends well beyond the classroom walls. Our students enjoy a wide range of excursions, incursions, and enrichment opportunities that allow them to explore, discover, and apply their learning in real-world contexts. From visiting cultural and historical sites to engaging in sporting, environmental, and community activities, these experiences help students build confidence, resilience, and teamwork. Each opportunity is designed to spark curiosity and show how classroom learning connects to the world around them, inspiring students to grow as confident, capable learners ready to take on new challenges.
